BALTIMORE, MD: Out of thousands of chapter books for children published in 2005, only two won the fall 2005 Mom's Choice Award. One was a manual for teenagers moving out of the family home—and the other was The Dark Dreamweaver by Nick Ruth, a debut novel published by tiny Imaginator Press. The award is the latest honor for a fantasy/environmental education novel that has already racked up a string of awards—something almost unheard of for a first-time novelist publishing with an unknown publisher.

The judges included the creators of Reading Rainbow and Baby Einstein, as well as some of the co-authors in the phenomenally successful Chicken Soup for the Soul series. For more about the award, please visit http://www.momschoiceawards.org/

The book's other accolades:

  • Named an American Booksellers Association Book Sense Children's Pick
  • Chosen by iParenting Media as one of the "Greatest Products of 2005"
  • A Finalist for the prestigious Benjamin Franklin Award.
  • Praised in major review outlets including Heartland Review, Midwest Book Review, and Independent Publisher

Said publisher Sheila Ruth, "The market is eager for new voices, and we're so pleased to bring Nick's creativity and passion to the world—and bring children to the worlds of Remin and Inspire. And it's really gratifying to have others recognize that we've done something special with this series."

In The Dark Dreamweaver, David, a boy from our own world, visits Remin, the world of dreams...does battle with the evil sorcerer Thane...and is aided by an imprisoned wizard battling the dream thief and living repeatedly through the lifecycle of a monarch butterfly. Author Nick Ruth and his illustrator, Sue Concannon, have recently released Book 2 in the series, The Breezes of Inspire, also published by Imaginator.

Journalists: Ruth, Ruth and Concannon are available for interviews and the books are available for review.
